Overhauling the Outdated

We can talk all we want about thoughtful garden design, but the proof is in the results! That’s why we like to revisit projects from time to time and show you how we help our clients create outdoor spaces they love.

 

Ever-encroaching juniper blobs—left over from decades ago—gave the front of this home an outdated, overgrown appearance. To transform the yard, giving it year-round interest and making it more sustainable, we used shrubs, grasses, sedums and other groundcovers.

 

We complemented the existing Rhododendrons (which were in good shape) by replacing the high-maintenance lawn with a gravel pathway and low-maintenance plantings. Different textures and movement were created with the addition of Calamagrostis and Stipea gigantea grasses. And we utilized peonies, lavender, coneflower, and black-eyed Susan to provide a succession of color and attract pollinators.

 

The result? Fragrant foliage and beauty that is drought-tolerant, too.
